There is no mandatory playing order for this series. The official Steam page for We Were Here Tomorrow says every entry is a standalone online co-op adventure: the stories connect, but you are not expected to work through them in sequence. So "series order" is really a scheduling question — which games to play, in what order, and whether Tomorrow is a fine place to begin. It is: Tomorrow arrived on 20 October 2026 as a self-contained story in a new facility with a new cast, and nothing in its setup assumes you have finished anything else.

The six titles in the series bundle

The We Were Here Series bundle on Steam lists six items, which gives a clean, official inventory to work from:

OrderGameWhat it gives you
1We Were HereThe original two-player escape-room loop; the community wiki describes it as free
2We Were Here TooSecond main entry
3We Were Here TogetherThird main entry
4We Were Here ForeverThe biggest of the pre-Tomorrow games according to the fan wiki
5We Were Here TomorrowFifth main entry, released 20 October 2026
Side entryWe Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShipA short, bite-sized spin-off sold in the same bundle

The developer's own wording supports the shape of that list: a February 2026 announcement described the series as having four earlier entries "plus a special bite-sized experience for new Explorers", with Tomorrow as the newest. Release years for the older titles (2017 through 2023) are dated on wewereheretomorrow.wiki's series-order page; the Steam listing itself gives the year only for Tomorrow.

Does the order change the story?

Not materially. Tomorrow drops two Explorers into a Norček Industries facility beneath the Antarctic ice, with an amnesiac pair and a director named Kathleen Bowe — a setting and cast introduced fresh in this game, per the Steam description. Earlier titles add resonance (the "fellow Explorers" framing lands harder if you know the series' history) but they are not prerequisites. The fan wiki reaches the same conclusion and adds that the reverse also holds: starting with Tomorrow does not spoil the earlier games.

Choosing a plan

Your situationSuggested planWhy
Only care about TomorrowPlay Tomorrow firstThe Steam page explicitly allows it; the story stands alone
Want the full backgroundWork through the five main entries in release order, Tomorrow lastEach earlier game builds familiarity with the walkie-talkie puzzle language
Only a few free eveningsOriginal game, then Forever, then TomorrowThe fan wiki's shortcut: the original teaches the loop, Forever teaches the scale

The third option is a community recommendation rather than a rule — the wiki at wewereheretomorrow.wiki suggests it for pairs with limited time before or after launch. Treat it as one sensible route among several.

What it costs

Prices below are the US-dollar figures on the Steam page on 2026-10-21:

ItemPrice
We Were Here Tomorrow$19.99, discounted 10% to $17.99 (offer ends 3 November)
Tomorrow: Fan Edition$6.99
Tomorrow Soundtrack$3.99
Complete Fan Pack (Tomorrow + Fan Edition)$24.82, discounted to $22.98
We Were Here Series bundle (all six titles)$57.16, discounted to $39.73

The 20 September launch announcement gave the base game as €19.99 / $19.99 / £16.99 with the same 10% launch discount. If you already own one or two entries, the developer notes the bundle still applies a discount to the rest. More detail lives on the price and launch discount page.

For the older titles, the fan wiki's guide describes the 2017 original and the FriendShip spin-off as free to claim; as of 2026-10-21 the official Steam page for Tomorrow does not list prices for those earlier games.

How long to plan

Tomorrow is the longest entry the studio has made. The 20 September 2026 announcement states it offers "around 15 hours of content", a figure repeated in the release-week material. For the earlier games, the community wiki estimates a full run of roughly 25–35 hours across the main entries and the spin-off — a player estimate, not a developer figure, and it will vary with how quickly your pair communicates.

Two practical notes that affect scheduling: the game is co-op only, and the Steam page requires both players to have a working PC-compatible microphone and an internet connection. Crossplay across Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S was confirmed in the 26 August announcement, so a mixed-platform pair is fine.

If you start with Tomorrow

  • Buy during the launch window if you can — the Steam page lists the 10% offer ending 3 November 2026.
  • Sort out voice chat before your first session; the entire game is built on describing what your partner cannot see. See the two-player co-op setup guide.
  • The demo is no longer an option: the 23 July 2026 developer post announced it would come down on 3 August 2026, after an initial one-week run in April and a Steam Next Fest return in June. The demo page keeps the recap.

The Steam news hub is where the studio posts launch notes, the September release-date trailer and post-launch fixes.
